Can I still submit books under CFP Comics dealer account?
With CGC now offering free notes to Associate and higher CS members, and dealers only able to offer a 15% discount, starting 1/3/2022 all submissions sent into us, need to have associated CGC paperwork with them. We are instituting these changes to help with turnaround times. The churn with filling out these forms really slows the workflow down.
CGC has phased out the paper forms, due to this fact CFP Comics will have to fill out the on-line submission for you. Obviously, this will take time, which will result in a nominal fee of $20.00 being charged per 25 book submission. First submission, regardless of the number of books is $20.00. With CGC now providing graders notes, up to a 15% discount and the ability to track your invoices, it is in your best interest to join the collector’s society.
How do I submit books to CFP for pressing and grading submission?
It is easy! Just start a new order by visiting the Submit Books page and fill out the submission form. Specify the books you are sending, your contact information, and any other details you want to provide. Once you have submitted the forms for CFP and the grading company (CGC or CBCS), pack the books securely and mail them to us at:

Turn Around Times (TAT’s)
Turnaround times are listed on the home page. Depending on where we are in the convention season they can range from 3-6 weeks. I do not have a fast track service and it is based on a first in, first out system.
Once a book has been pressed it will sit for 7 days to make sure no reversion has taken place. If a book had heavy creases or waves the book may need to get hit one additional time. Usually the second pressing removes any remaining issues and the books can be sent to the graders. I do this so your books leave my office in the best shape possible.
I go down to the grading companies once a month. Please keep in mind I bring the books down with no additional cost to you. This may take up to four weeks depending on when your books are processed in the schedule and when my last trip was.

What is included in the price of the pressing?
For the regular tiers of service the following is included along with the pressing.
- Dry cleaning
- Spot and tacking iron work
- Full book press
- Quick restoration check. I do not claim to be an expert but I do catch most of what comes across myÂ desk
- If the book needs to be pressed again it will be done at no additional cost

Can I have a book reviewed?
Yes, if you feel we missed something and would like us to review the book or books, please send them back in with a note mentioning what you were unhappy with. After review, if something was missed it will be taken care of at no additional charge to you.
What is the “No-Prep press” tier all about?
The No-Prep Press Tier is for books that just need a one and done press. It is for very clean books that do not require dry cleaning or extensive work with the tacking iron before the full book press.
Only stipulations with the quick press are listed below.
- Moderns qualify if they are valued under $100.00
- Pre-1975 books under $150.00 in value qualify
- If I determine the book does not qualify for the quick press option I will email you before doing any work on the book.
- This is not a fast track option. It is a cheaper alternative for books that are in need of very little work to begin with.
What type of bag and board should I use for my books?
The answer is…it depends. If it is a high dollar book I would recommend going with Mylites and Full Backs. For everything else I would just recommend a regular comic bag with at least two backing boards. Sending books in without backing boards, or sending books in golden age bags with modern backing boards could cause shifting while the books are in transit to us, which might result in tears or impact dents to the corners of the book. You dont want the book too snug, or too lose, so please use the appropriate bags and boards.
What is the best way to contact CFP Comics?

What is pressing?
Pressing, over the years has shared the spotlight with restoration when it comes to receiving attention from the hobby.
Pressing is a process that can raise the grade of a comic by removing small defects using non-restorative techniques.
If I don’t submit them to get graded, will they look better in my collection?
Everyone has their own reason for submitting books to be pressed; higher monetary value is not always the factor.
How do I safely pack my books to ship to you?
In general you want to secure the comic(s) in between two pieces of cardboard that extend well beyond the edges of the book and place it in a sturdy box filling any additional space with absorbing packing material such as packing peanuts.

How do I make payment for pre-screen books?
Pre-screening is now handled by the grading company when you fill out the appropriate forms. You no longer need to pay CFP Comics for this part of the service.
What determines if a book is a “good” pressing candidate?
Here is a small list of what would be considered good defects to look for when deciding if a book is a pressing candidate:
- Non-color breaking creases
- Spine roll
- Bends due to improper storage
Does pressing a book guarantee a higher grade?
No, pressing a book does not guarantee it will come back a higher grade. Since grading is subjective and the book could have been overgraded to begin with even though pressable defects are present, there is no way to guarantee any improvements to the visual appeal of the book will result in a higher technical grade. CFP Comics does not guarantee a grade bump if a book is pressed.
Is pressing considered restoration?
Neither CBCS or CGC considers pressing or dry cleaning to be restoration and books pressed by CFP will not receive a restored label as a result of the process.
How are fees determined?
Fees are determined primarily by what you select when creating your invoice. On rare ocassions an incorrect amount is selected and the invoice amount has to be ammended before the books are sent for grading. This could be an increase in the total owed, or it could mean a partial refund because too much was paid up front. Changes have been made in the way shipping and insurance is selected, but bear in mind many variables can result in a different charge compared to what was originally paid.
Will the book increase in value?
Many books will see an increase in value after being pressed. The difference in value from 9.4 to 9.6 or 4.5 to 5.0 for select Golden or Silver age books could be worth the cost of our pressing service.
What types of defects cannot be corrected with pressing?
Below is a list of what would be considered “bad” defects that a pressing would not be able to improve on:
- Color-breaking creases
- Water Stains
- Color Touch
- Rusty Staples
- Color fading
- Popped/detached staples
- Missing pieces
